On the 11 of September 2010 in the Lindos city of Rodos island (Greece ) I, Maksim Kibko citizen of Russian Federation
Further I will only write facts of what happened to me without any comments:
I and my wife were on holidays in IBEROSTAR LINDOS ROYAL HOTEL (Greece 4 km . On the arrival, i came down and started crossing the road on zebra crossing. The car that was following my bus stopped, allowing me to cross the road, I looked at the car on my right side and saw that it’s also stopped. Suddenly, the car on my right started moving. I saw that I can’t avoid the clash, jumped on the bonnet of the car, fell on the ground hitting head in the process and lost consciousness. According to my wife, the car that hit me stopped, car’s driver came down, made several steps towards me, then turned back and drove away.
In some second’s policeman appeared and started regulating the traffic. My wife phoned insurance company “ INGOSSTRAH”, company that provided insurance policy for us. They accepted my wife’s application and said that their representative will contact us shortly. In 3 minutes time I gained my consciousness, saw policeman and tried to draw his attention. People, surrounding me, among them were also Russian tourists, said that I should not move. Policeman was just looking at me without making any attempt to get closer to me. In 2 minutes time arrived ambulance. Who called ambulance I don’t know.
Ambulance took me to the clinic in in the place called Arhangelos. The doctor who attended to me spoke in Russian. He dressed my wound and put 6 stitches. While I was with the doctor, he received a phone call. Doctor answered in Greek language, after he finished discussion, he told me that someone presented himself as my relation and asked him about my condition. Doctor didn’t give the caller any information about my condition. I asked doctor to phone police and find out whether they found the driver of the car that hit me. After a long discussion and several phone calls, doctor told me that police examined the witnesses and some of them said that I fell of a bike, some that I fell in the middle of the road without any reason. They didn’t question me or my wife and didn’t have another version of what actually happened. After I left clinic I took a cab and went to hotel.
After arriving hotel, I immediately phoned Valentina, a representative of Natali tours, whose phone number was indicated on my travelling voucher. I narrated my story to her and asked her to help me to submit my statement to police. She answered that she is very far from me and can’t help me. Then I phoned “ INGOSSTRAH” from another phone number and they noted second phone number assuring me that their representative will contact me shortly. Then, once more, I phoned Natali tours using local phone number and young lady who picked the phone, told me that she is aware about what happened to me , they already contacted police and were told that falling on the road was my fault. I told her my version of what happened to me. She promised to discuss with Valentina again about it and to contact me very soon. After that, I phoned Consular Department of Russian federation on Crete island and couldn’t get through, the number was on auto reply. I phoned Russian embassy in Greece , discussed with three different people, all of them listened to me very attentively and expressed sympathy, the person I spoke to last, told me that since I came to Greece
Valentina arrived at 19.05, police at 19.15. Policeman listened to me and my wife, wrote down our passport numbers and statements asked us to sign and we did that after Valentina checked all documents. Policeman told us that without written evidence that I was treated at the clinic after I got injured, he can’t start investigation of the case. Policeman said that I should apply in Greek to the clinic to get written evidence. Since the following day was Sunday, Valentina promised to get all papers from clinic on Monday.
On Monday 13 Seprember 2010, Valentina informed me around 12.00 pm that she went to clinic in order to get health certificate and was told by the doctor that to get it is a very tedious process and can be issued only to me based on my application. She offered to get a cab and quickly go to the clinic since it is closes at 14.00. I dressed up, went downstairs and asked Valentina to get a cab (last time it cost me 45 euro) and to follow me to the clinic. She answered that she is very busy and I should hurry up.
I took a taxi and went to clinic, taxi driver promised to wait and take me back to the hotel. At the clinic, I couldn’t find a doctor, then I met a nurse, I informed her that I came to see doctor. She told me that he is not around for some time and will be around on Friday. I called Valentina on phone and asked her to speak to nurse and explain what I need health certificate for. Nurse called Senior matron of the clinic. Matron came, went through clinic register, and asked me to come tomorrow. I came out, entered taxi and narrated my story to taxi driver, he asked me to follow him to the clinic and after his discussion with Matron, she wrote application and asked me to sign, then in 5 minutes I was given a 2 copies of Health certificate. My passport was not needed.
On my way back, I sent SMS to Valentina and informed her that I have Health certificate now. On the following day, Valentina came at 12.30, took Health certificate and told me that she is going to police to submit evidence from clinic to collect document confirming that investigation has been started, case number, etc.
On 15 of September at 21.00, i returned to my room after dinner and found envelope lying on the floor. My Health certificate was inside and on the inner side of envelope was written: “I couldn’t do anything. Police refused to give me confirmation.” My stay was coming to an end, the following day I went back to Russia
Here the story of what happened to me on Rodos is coming to end. I didn’t receive call from representative of “ INGOSSTRAH”.
I now understand that both companies Natali tours and INGOSSTRAH serve only one purpose it is to get more money from tourists on one side and provide very bad service on another.
Understand that Russian embassy in Greece is occupied with more important things than to protect lives and interests of Russian citizens in Greece
Understand that Greek police doesn’t want to start legal case in order to protect their countryman.
But what can I do, just a simple Russian man against which was committed a crime. I can only write to different organizations- human rights protectors. Text of letter, pictures, copies of documents I will publish on site twitter.com/911_on_Rhodos.
What i want to achieve:
In first, i want to achieve that so widely advertised European communion justice proved it’ effectiveness and a man who committed a crime will undergo a respective punishment.
In second, i want to achieve that all responsible people who showed inactiveness, inadequateness, failure to perform their duties, will get a response.
